The very aesthetically pleasing Alfa Romeo Spider, which is also sometimes referred to as “Spyder”, shared many competent of the Giulia. With four wheel assisted disc brakes, independent suspension to the front, and coil suspended to the back in the same fashion as the Giulia. The Alfa Romeo Spider is considered a classic which has been successfully produced for a long run, with only minor cosmetic and mechanical alterations made to the car.

Powered with the same 1600cc engine as in the Sprint GTV, producing 109bh with four cylinders, the Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto (as it was commonly known) had a five speed transmission and disc brakes. The framework was lifted from the Giulia 105 series, sporting crumple zones, an innovation for the time. After two years of production of the Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto the car was revised and the 1800cc 1750 Veloce was born and was passed the baton from the Duetto. (more…)

One of the best cars to drive but worst to fix, or is it? I bought this good looking muscle car for a bargain. Yes, compared to what I could have bought it was a true bargain. Nothing looks quite like it. A car with sexy curves with leather interior and hidden door handles. The paint job is not the best but nothing else looks like it. You get air-conditioning, power steering, ABS, Fuel Injection, Central locking with built in alarm, Two air bags, and a lot of muscle. 2.5litre V6 quad cam 24 valve Alfa engine that push out 140KW and 190bhp. At 7.2 seconds 0 – 60Mph its fast. (more…)

For those stylish sports car enthusiasts that are in the know most of Alfa Romeo postwar success can be traced to their stylish Bertone and Zagato coupes. Powered by fast, zippy twin-cam high performance engines they were highly fast as well as attractive.

The last of the Giulia GTV coupes left the production line in 1976, marking the end of a pretty direct line after 20 years, true testimony to the high quality of the original design.

The first Giulietta coupe had been introduced in very limited numbers during 1954 and the range really made its debut at the 1955 Turin Auto Show. Giulettas were small cars designed chiefly to be popular and affordable but also to be versatile enough to be built as practical, indeed dowdy saloons, elegant coupes and even efficient race winners. 300px-Alfa_Romeo_Formula_31Last June 24, 2010, Alfa Romeo celebrated its 100th year, having been founded way back in 1910 by Italian aristocrat Cavaliere Ugo Stella, a man who decided that he wanted to create both road and race cars that suited his style and vision of what cars should be like. With that dream in mind, Cavaliere set out to found this car company, and quickly began to take the automotive world by storm. His early racing cars quickly became successful, winning many championship races through the skills of famous drivers like Giuseppe Campari and Enzo Ferrari.

His successes, while quick, were unfortunately halted due to the onset of the 2nd World War. During the war, Alfa Romeo’s main factory was bombed and destroyed, bringing the company to financial ruin, threatening the company’s existence. They adapted, however, resorting to creating smaller road cars that would be reliable, high performance, still stylish, and relatively affordable. This new direction gave Alfa a chance to shine, quickly becoming popular in the European market. Despite this, however, Romeo would not be a truly global name, until the arrival of one Hollywood movie. (more…)
